Welcome to our WOW Classic Ahn’Qiraj AQ20 Guide – overall review on raid content in vanilla Warcraft with 20 players group. In this guide, we will cover the main features of Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj and suggest effective battle strategies. In fact, AQ20 is close to Zul’Gurub in terms of overall difficulty and token system.
This raid is quite enjoyable because it is outdoor area where you can mount, so going through the location won’t be tough. The map is linear. You go straight through the bosses to reach the final boss. Although there are additional bosses that can be killed for additional loot if needed.
Common tips for Ahn’Qiraj AQ20
Comfort raid group should include 2 tanks, 5-7 healers and other DPS. It is better to have an emphasis on ranged/casters DPS as it will be required for some bosses, for instance, Moam.
Nature resistance will help to reduce overall damage as there are many NPCs dealing nature damage.
The raid becomes available after Ahn’Qiraj War Effort is completed and the Gates are opened.
Although, the Scepter of the Shifting Sands questline is not obligatory, you can complete it to get mount and weapon. We offer special service for requests like this.
The Entrance to the Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj
There is no problem finding the entrance if you look at the map. You need to cross Silithus by the main road. If you have already reached Cenarion Hold, then continue moving on the southwest part of the map and you will find entrance closer to the mountains.
If you haven’t reached Cenarion Hold, you can find the way from the northwest path out of Un’Goro Crater, which is located in the western side of Tanaris. Once you come to Cenarion Hold, you can unlock the flight path to get to Ahn’Qiraj easier.
In WoW Classic Ahn’Qiraj AQ20 guide we cover the path to 20 players entrance. There is another Ahn’Qiraj raid, which is undoubtedly more difficult and requires a group of 40.
Navigating in the Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj
As mentioned before, there is linear map where you need to kill boss after boss. There are other additional bosses, but players do not often kill them due to lack of necessity.
You can also skip some mob packs if you are careful. The location allows to make accurate route with the quickest access to final boss. Keep it in mind if you feel that the group is not well-equipped to complete the raid fast and effectively.
Full Route in Ahn’Qiraj
Sometimes players decide to finish all the bosses. This route is for them.
In this WoW Classic Ahn’Qiraj AQ20 guide we cover all the options, but it is better to choose the route in advance not to be surprised by any player reaction.
Token System in Ahn’Qiraj
The token loot system consists of different type of items, including scarabs, idols and Qiraji pieces. Each class will need to collect two sets of 5 specific scarabs in addition to two specific idols to pair with a specific Qiraji piece to exchange them for a set piece.
These tokens can be exchanged for the 3-piece Cenarion Circle armor set featuring a ring, cloak, and weapon. Each armor piece also requires a certain reputation level with the Cenarion Circle, with rings available at honored, cloaks offered at revered, and finally a weapon as your grand prize for exalted.
It is easy to collect the items mentioned, but it can take time to find the needed ones for your class quest. Scarabs and idols can be found from trash mobs, Qiraji pieces can be looted only from bosses. Besides killing all the NPCs in the raid, you can also find Scarab Coffer Key and Scarab Bag. These items will help you to find more than one item and save time.
Firstly, you can gain reputation killing trashes and bosses both within Ahn’Qiraj AQ20 and AQ40. To get the armor set you need to become exalted with Cenarion Circle. Druids from Cenarion Circle have outposts in Cenarion Hold and Valor’s Rest.
There is an alternative way to gain reputation – killing Twilight Cultists within Silithus (Avengers, Geolords, Stonecallers. You will gain 10 reputation per each kill.
The armor set consists of ring, cloak and weapon. There is no common way to get them, because each class needs to collect its own items to exchange for equipment. Here is the list:

In Ahn’Qiraj you have 3 required bosses and some additional. To complete the raid you need to kill Kurinnaxx, General Rajaxx and Ossirian the Unscarred.
Kurinnaxx periodically uses AOE attacks, so the group has to be prepared. The main tank should face the boss and other damage dealers should attack from behind or on the sides.
Having offtank in the group can be an advantage, because the boss will cast debuff that reduces the incoming healing. To manage this, have your offtank taunt around 5 stacks. When the duration fades, the main tank can take over again.
Other members should be attentive, because Kurinnaxx spawn explosive bombs (Sand Trap), which brings damage, silence and 75% reduction of hit chanse for the whole 20 seconds.
During the fight Kurinnaxx summons small groups of other NPCs, which can together deal a great damage. Keep focus on them and kill before they kill group members.
After 30% is left the boss gets strong enrage. Save your longer cooldowns for this moment and bring the biggest damage in short period before your tank is dead.
The boss is not so challenging, but be prepared for a good crowd control. You begin the fight with Lieutenant General Andorov and four other NPCs. Keep them alive, because the y make the fight much easier.
There are seven waves of fighting with Qiraji Warriors and other small mobs. The mage in the group should focus on Captains and sheep them until all other enemies are dead. This will help to reduce the overall damage. If somebody in the group is killed, he can be resurrected after the Captain is dead and join the fight again.
After all 7 waves are done there comes General Rajaxx itself. Sometimes the boss will disarm your tank and knock backwards group members. This becomes annoying because of low overall DPS. It will also reduce incoming healing in all the group by 40-50%, so healers should concentrate on low health members, specially disarmed tanks.
General Andorov and his group will make the fight easier due to additional damage and aggro.
Ossirian the Unscarred
The final boss is not so difficult as it usually must be. Remove his strong buffs tripling damage by kiting to the crystals that appear in the room. It will weaken him for 45 seconds. He will also become defenseless for magic attacks, so mages and warlocks will deal extra damage.
Tanks should react quickly when the buff is over, so always looking for the new crystals is good idea. Once it appears, run straight and take the boss with you.
The boss immunes to taunts, so threat must be spread among all the members of the group. Periodically It can stun tank for 10 seconds, so it is better to gain aggro at the beginning of the fight. Sometimes the boss casts AOE knockback with 5 second stun.
For other group members, the fight will be not so difficult. Avoid tornados because of big damage. Besides, keep debuffing Ossirian with new crystals and the raid will be completed.
Moam is not ordinary boss, because it focuses on different types of DPS and mana draining. During the battle the boss will continuously leech mana from players preventing them from using abilities. To avoid mana shortage, players should use mana draining abilities. For example, hunters can use Viper String, priests can use Mana Burn and warlocks can use Drain Mana itself.
It is very vital to keep mana draining during the fight, otherwise the boss will cast strong ability – Arcane Eruption. By using this Moam will wipe. If you prevent Moam from gaining mana, then after 90 seconds in the battle it will turn into the stone and become invulnerable.
At this moment, there spawns three Mana Fields. You can try to kill them simultaneously or control two of them and fight one at any time. You have 90 seconds to kill them otherwise the boss will become alive again. After fighting Mana Fields, continue fighting the boss and draining its mana.
Repeat this 90-seconds actions until you kill Moam. Having priests, hunters and warlocks in the raid will help you. In this fight, you will challenge group mana managing, so having potions in the bag will bring you advantage.
Buru the Gorger
This boss is also not ordinary, because you do not deal direct damage during the fight. At the beginning, he is extremely resistant to any damage and becomes faster by hitting. This happens until there is 20% health left.
There is only one way to bring the boss indirect damage – making him run into eggs and destroy them. During the fight, Buru will target random players, so all the raid players should be ready to run at the opposite side of the eggs. Hit after hit Buru takes damage until there is 20% left. At this moment, the boss loses damage resistance allowing players to hit.
After 20% health, you begin real DPS race, because Buru can’t be taunted and becomes stronger and faster hit after hit. Each of the players should be ready to face him and have serious damage. It is better to save all your longest cooldowns to the end of the fight and kill him ASAP.
Ayamiss the Hunter
Ayamiss the Hunter causes the biggest threat in the Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj due to its difficult fight mechanics. You have two-phase fight, where different player roles have its own mission.
First phase includes air attack. The boss is staying in the air, so only casters and ranged DPS can hit him. Ayamiss at the same time attacks player with the biggest threat. Melee DPS should stay near the altar.
Great benefit is having nature resistance, because Ayamiss has stacking nature debuff. Whoever the boss is attacking will receive periodical nature poison, which won’t cause serious damage itself, but can quickly ramp out of control without resistance.
Melee DPS at the same time will have to deal with Hive’ Zara Larva. These NPCs will appear during the fight and attack random person. Tanks should be very diligent to take control of them.
Random person will be picked up to sacrifice. To save the player, others should immediately focus the Hive’ Zara Larva down otherwise player will die.
Second phase begins when the boss has 70% health left. Ayamiss will land, so melee DPS can also begin hitting and tanks can aggro the boss. If main tank doesn’t have high nature resistance, then it is better to have additional offtank to switch threat when poison stacks get high.
